How to read two benefit summaries.

Use the SBC and A/B worksheet to compare the same services, networks and costs.

Find the exact plan document

The Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC) presents benefits, cost sharing and coverage examples. Check the plan name, year and covered people; do not compare documents from different periods.

Compare the same need

Review primary care, specialists, prescriptions and the service that matters most to you. Note the deductible, copay or coinsurance and any additional conditions. Confirm the network and prescriptions in the plan’s resources as well as reading the summary.

Separate premiums from care costs

Twelve monthly premiums help compare the annual cost of maintaining the policy. They are not the total cost of care. Out-of-pocket limits also have rules: check what counts and what is excluded before using one as a reference.
